Sexual Assault Specialist Job Description

Job Description

Sexual Assault Specialists are needed to make supportive call backs to Survivors that come through our Crisis Helpline. This service is offered 24/7. Specialists also accompany Survivors through SANE exams at designated hospitals, as well as police interviews.

Six month commitment of one scheduled weekday each week-5PM to 6AM, and one weekend monthly - 5PM Friday through 6AM Monday

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Call back Survivor’s from home who call in to our 24-hour hotline requesting to speak to a SAS (you do not have to stay at home as long as you can be reached by cell). Specialist will be notified from Hotline phone room that a Survivor would like to be called back, in which case the Specialist has 15 minutes to return Survivor’s call where she/he will offer non-judgmental support and information and referral
  • Accompany Survivor to emergency room and with her/his permission, Specialist is expected to remain with the Survivor throughout the medical examination, evidence collection, and police interviews. With approval, Specialist may meet Survivor at police station to view line-ups/mug shots and police/prosecutor interviews. In a case taken to court, effort will be made for ContactLifeline staff to accompany Survivor
  • Strict confidentiality is maintained with all interactions with Survivors and their families and loved ones, except in situations that require mandatory reporting
  • Call reports and accompaniments must be entered into iCarol system within 24 hours of Contact with Survivor

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 and a high school graduate
  • Have reliable transportation and phone
  • Possess empathy, caring, non-judgmental attitude and a true desire to help those in need
  • Possess basic computer, word processing, and internet knowledge
  • Be responsible and motivated
  • Have strong listening and communication skills
  • Commit to 6 months of service
  • Be within 30 minutes of Christiana Hospital
  • Must have completed SOS or SAS training and training on ContactLifeline Policies and Procedures and iCarol
