The mission of SAND
The mission of the Sexual Assault Network of Delaware is to raise awareness of the problem of sexual assault in all its forms. They include, but are not limited to: sexual assault/violence, incest, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and other forms of sexual exploitation such as human trafficking and the international sex trade.
SAND represents a group of multi-disciplinary professionals including: law enforcement (local, state, and federal), emergency medical professionals, community leaders, Sexual Assault Specialists, sexual assault and domestic violence victim service providers, mental health professionals and sexual assault survivors.
In order to stay current with emerging trends, subcommittees are created when gaps are identified to address solutions and/or state positions pertaining to a specific topic. These subcommittees may be disestablished if a need is no longer present.

Subcommittees
Legislative: The legislative subcommittee is responsible for reviewing, modifying and developing legislation to improve sexual assault victim related services.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE): The SANE subcommittee is comprised of forensic nurse examiners and other professionals who are on the front line when working with victims of acute sexual assault. The SANE sub-committee is also responsible for the development and implementation of standards of care.
Training/Public Awareness: The Training and Public Awareness subcommittee promotes awareness of sexual assault issues and provides professional training to varied audiences in collaboration with member agencies. In addition, this subcommittee publishes the SAND newsletter to raise awareness of sexual assault and to address the needs of sexual assault victims in Delaware.
Underreporting: The Underreporting Sub-committee is responsible for examining the prevalence of underreported sexual violations and developing and implementing tactics to combat the issue.
